Recall petitions to be filed at 1 p.m.

A post from Warner Mendenhall says that he plans to deliver additional petitions fo the city clerk at 1 p.m. He claims to have about 2,000 additional names. The recall group needs about 500 more valid signatures to get the recall on the ballot over the next 60 days.

We're still a few days away from seeing if the list of names will hold up; that's where the Board of Elections will have final say.

But we could know for sure by Monday ...

More later .. Eric

Is there any reason that factual comments like the one that ended your WKYC story of "If the signatures are validated, the recall election will cost tax payers about $175,000" could not be followed up with the in perspective, continuing factual comment of "which is identical to the cost of Mayor Plusquellic's single issue, special election in June 2007 that asked voters to approve an Akron income tax increase for economic development."?

On another subject, will the PBS 45/49 ever offer a streaming or downloadable version of "NewsNight Akron" episodes?

Keep up the good work!

When Akron runs into a budget deficit that pulls police off the streets, not aided in any way by the frivolous cost of this recall, I wonder what Mr. Mendenhall's answer will be to that?

Oh, that Mayor Plusquellic... he's such a mean, nasty fellow. Riiiight.

Well, it didn't take until Monday.

Change Akron Now came in with a total number of valid signatures that exceeded the Charter dictated threshold by 25%.

Wayne,
NNA episodes can be watched on-line but I don't know of any plans to offer it streaming or in download form, but I can check.
Also . .the 175K would be for a "special" election because the recall must be held in 40-60 days and there's not another election scheduled.
The Mayor's failed economic development levy was held during a regularly-scheduled election date, so the only cost was the ink to put it on the ballots that were already scheduled to be printed.
Stay in touch ..
