Eye opening night

I've spent the last few hours following a series of police crackdowns throughout Akron. APD targeted "Hot Spots" for a second night in a row ... backed up by dozens of State Troopers, U.S. Marshalls and officers from pretty much every department in the county ... more than 100 law enforcement officers in all. The troopers also brought their helicopter, which bounced around overhead and drew a lot of attention

I want to share a quick note about the last call we followed tonight. A man stopped in an SUV. Police found crack cocaine and a bag of pot (they tested both on the scene) in the guy's front seat .. and his four-year-old son asleep with no seat belt on in the back seat.
Here's a picture of the state troopers and APD working together to process and test the drugs.

It was surreal to watch the officers process the vehicle and obtain the positive test results with the chemical test units ... all while this four-year-old boy was clinging to who I assume is his father in the back of the police car.

The officers called out a "rule six" so that CSB would come take the boy to safety while the man is taken to jail. I can't imagine how tough it is for those little eyes to understand what's happening.
My story on the police crackdown will air Friday night on Channel 3 News and on your Akron-Canton News.

I wondered what was going on--I passed the garage on E Market about 6:40 and cruisers and OSP were pouring out onto the street. There was a large mobile unit in the parking lot with a satellite dish on top. Knew that something big was happening and figured that Eric would fill us in later. :) Again, why we'll miss our local news

How are we going to know what is happening when WKYC is gone.

Nooooo!

When something happens - I know I will listen to you and find out what it was - this is so unfair

It is about time they do something like this. Akron has turned into the Wild West lately. Too many robberies and assaults by young black males in hooded sweatshirts. Seriously, if you read the crime stories in the ABJ, that is how all of them are described.
