Well .. my venture into live theater as "Jacob" in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" has been quite rewarding or me. I'm really having the time of my life.Yet for the staff at Weathervane Community Playhouse, this year's production has been both good news and bad news.
The good news is that the phones have been ringing constantly .. and that's the bad news too. The phones are ringing constantly! It's tough for the staff to get any other work done! In the world of non-profit community theater, it's a good problem to have.
Yesterday came an announcement that help is on the way. Weathervane is adding an encore performance on Saturday Dec. 22nd at 3:30 p.m. for those who've been shut out of seeing the show. (Again, tickets will be available soon on-line or by calling the box office at 330-836-2626.)
Fifteen shows of 240+ seats scheduled over four weekends through Dec. 15th ... and all have sold out with the exception of a few individual seats here and there.
Parents and grandparents of some of the young choir members who waited too long to make plans have called begging for tickets. Relatives and close friends of the performers have come to the lobby hoping to be on the waiting list should someone not come to pick up their tickets. There have literally been tears. I've never seen anything like it.
The show's success revolves around its excellent cast of some of the finest young performers in the area. These are great kids and they've made me feel very welcome in my supporting role as the father of the 12 brothers.
"Joseph" has become an annual tradition at Weathervane with this being the eighth year it's hit the stage for the holidays. Never have tickets sold like this though.
COMING SOON: I took a small video camera to one of last week's performances to do a "behind-the-scenes" featurette .. I'm almost done with it and will upload it soon for a fun look at the show.

Thank goodness they added a show! I had conflicts with every single performance date, but just got off the phone with the box office who reserved me a seat for the 22nd. Looking forward to seeing you and your son!
